  • 8 Things I Do to Fuel My Fearlessness That Has nothing To Do with Fashion

8 Things I Do to Fuel My Fearlessness That Has nothing To Do with Fashion

If I said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times…being fearless is hard! I mean I don’t consider myself the most fearless woman in the world. I battle with it every day. The thing about being fearless is not about not having any fear. It’s about having that fear and acknowledging it. But instead of letting it hold me back from what I want, I say, “fuck it” and do it anyway. I try to live by that motto so much that I have it tattooed on my wrist. Seriously.

I feel like it’s important to let you know that I’m not Queen Fearless, by any means. I’m human. Aren’t we all?? Although, I love a fashion moment. And feel like it’s one of the best ways to show off your fearlessness. There are other ways that I handle my fear that has absolutely, positively nothing to do with fashion .and here they are:

#1. Search for the silver lining in every “bad” situation

This is probably one of the hardest things to do. How do you find a silver lining when you lose someone you love, when the you depended on something to happen that didn’t, love money, etc? It isn’t easy but trust me there is a lesson in it that will help you find that lining. It might not immediately appear but sit down, think about it, and give it some time. It’s there.

#2. Visualize the positive outcome when faced with adversity.

This idea is somewhat similar to finding the silver lining. This idea is just about seeing the positivity before something occurs. Anything can happen at any time. Knowing that, visualize how you can turn that negative into a positive. For instance, who would’ve thought we would have to be stuck in the house for the past 7 months or so?? The positive of that is that we have had much more time to spend not only with our family but ourselves. I consider that to be a great thing!

#3. Say things aloud because there are power in words.

I can’t tell you how much I believe in the power of words. I’ve seen it so many times. For instance, about a two years ago, my fiancé and I took a road trip in a rented SUV. While on the trip, he fell in love with car and said that we were going to have one with our baby seat in the back. Buying a car and having a baby wasn’t in our radar at the time. Fast forward, two years and not only do we own that SUV but we now have a beautiful baby boy. I remember telling him well before leaving my corporate job that I was going to be doing something with fashion in the future. Look at me now, I’m a fashion designer/maker. Words are powerful.

#4. Tell someone because it helps to hold me accountable.

When I tell someone that I’m going to do something. It makes me feel like I have to keep my word. There are so many times when I will randomly blurt out something like, “I’m going to sew 5 new outfits by the week.”

#5. Put it on my vision board because if I see it, I can achieve it.

I’ve said before that I love a vision board and nothing has changed. Again, I’ve put things on my vision board. Only to review it at the end of the year to find that some of it has already come to fruition. Give it a try.

#6. Recognize that people love throwing their fear on you. Sometimes you have to keep things to yourself.

Although, this is self explanatory, You might find it difficult to just cut people off. But don’t let people fill up my ear with their fears. Give them 2-5 minutes of ranting and raving. If they aren’t talking about resolutions after that, why are you still talking?

#7. Read other womens fearless stories for inspiration.

Things always seem hopeless…until you see someone else story. There is always someone doing worse than you or who is more fearful than you. Not that you should thrive off others pain. It just helps to put things in perspective.

#8. Listen and write my own mantras. Ya’ girl loves a good saying to help get through a fearful time.

One of my favorites is simple…”Girl please, you got this!”

There’s no rule book to fearless living. Its about what makes you comfortable enough to give fear the finger and do what you want not what you should,

  • What I’ve Learned About Going From Entrepreneur To Mompreneur

What I’ve Learned About Going From Entrepreneur To Mompreneur

As you might already know, I became a mom to my first baby in May. Having my baby boy has truly been one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I completely understand now, what a mothers love really is. His happiness consumes me. It’s one of my main goals in life. I never thought I’d be the type of mom to pull out my phone and shows his pictures to any and everyone. Im that Mom times 10. The bad part of it since we are in quarantine is that I only come in contact with the same group of people. My mom, brother, 2 nieces, and nephew. Which means they are the lucky ones who get to view 100 new pics a day!

Although, Im loving motherhood. I must admit that it presents some challenges when it comes to being an entrepreneur. Right now, Im literally holding him while he sleeps on my left arm and typing this on my laptop with my right hand.

Before my son arrived, I didn’t feel pressure like I do now. In my mind, I had an endless amount of time to post, blog, sew, do pop ups…whatever. I was (and still am) a night owl so burning the midnight oil hustling was nothing to me. But now. Oh, hell no…Mama had to make some serious changes. Here is what I’ve learned and how I maneuver since going from entrepreneur to mompreneur.

    Take advantage of nap time.

One piece of advice I heard more often than others was, “Sleep when the baby sleeps.” This sounds like great advice. But since Ive never been one to nap in the middle of the day. I found it super, difficult to take a full on nap at 2 in the afternoon. I make his nap time, my hustling time. My baby is a lil’ over 3 months so I hold him…alot. Which means I don’t have much free arm time. So, while I’m holding him, I do as much as I can that requires me to sit in one position. From writing as many blog posts as possible, creating content for newsletters and social media, shopping online for new fabric, etc.

    Patience really is a virtue.

Baby boy doesn’t care what I want to accomplish for the day. He could care less if I’m on a business or Zoom call. Not to mention how much sewing I have to do. I throw any frustration out of the window when he needs to be fed, changed, or wants to eat or play when I’m working. I always remember he will only be this small for a short amount of time. Be patient and take full advantage of the precious moments we can share.

Don’t be afraid to ask for an extra hand.

Like most mothers, I want to do it all. Run a business, change every diaper, do every feeding, and not miss one moment. But asking for a helping hand doesn’t mean you aren’t killing it at motherhood. I mean…I just realized that its okay for my husband to take care of him while I’m sewing. He loves him too!

    Don’t forget about you.

Speaking of asking for an extra hand. Don’t forget about your own self care. This doesn’t mean you have to leave the house without the baby for hours. I’m certainly not there. Self-care could be having Dad sit with him while you take a bath or do a face mask. Such a small act can reap big benefits in making you feel like you!

    Strategize as much as possible.

Create a list of your goals for the day, week, or month. Then knock the items off your list as you get free time. All of your tasks will be accomplished before you know it.

    Set realistic goals.

This has been a huge one for me! Before the baby, I could cut fabric and completely sew a dress within 2 days. Now?! Well, it takes about that long to gather the fabric and cut the pieces. Maybe a day or two longer?? Two days to complete a look is no longer realistic. Its a joke really. Now, I set a more realistic timeframe to finish a garment. And I adjust the time, if needed. No use in putting extra stress in myself.

    Invest in a blanket carrier.

When all else fails, put your baby in the carrier to keep him/her close to you and keep it moving. I received one during my baby shower. But only planned on using it while we were out. Until one day, I ran across thread in a Facebook group where the women were talking about how they were able to get so much done while their baby was in a carrier. I finally decided to give it a try and let me tell you…it’s a life saver!

I recently read an article about a mother who was successfully running her own business. She despised being labeled as Mompreneur. She felt like it discredited her as a business women. I feel the exact opposite. I find that being a Mom while running a business is a great accomplishment. Back in the day, it was thought that once you become a Mom, you pretty much gave up on your dream. Being a mom while running a business is such a great way to show everyone that this idea is soooo far from the truth. We can do it all now!

  • What Stops People From Reaching Their Fitness Goals?

What Stops People From Reaching Their Fitness Goals?

We all want to be as fit and healthy as possible. Alas, sometimes that’s easier said than done. If we’re going to be our fittest self, then we’ll need to be motivated to get started. But that’s not all. While it would be nice to think that our determination would see us reach our goals, that’s not the case. Oftentimes, people make a few key errors that help their progress back. In this blog, we’ll take a look at some of the more common mistakes, and also offer advice on how you can maximize the results from your efforts.

    There’s No Plan

You can’t just walk blind and hope to reach the top of the mountain. You need to plan a route for how you’ll get there. The same principle can be applied to fitness. While it’s fine to just freestyle your gym efforts while you’re still getting into the habit of going, soon you’ll want to come up with a plan that’ll lead to results. There’s a right and wrong way to do things, after all. So take time to think about what you’re trying to achieve from your exercise efforts, and make sure you’re doing the things that’ll lead to the results you’re looking for.

    Making the Same Mistakes

Some people fall into the trap of thinking that, because they’re doing exercise, they’re able to do whatever they want. But this isn’t the case. Your efforts at the gym (or wherever else) will be the starting point; they’re not everything. Let’s think about this: how much progress could a person expect to make if they visit the gym for one hour twice a week, but spend the rest of their time lying on the couch? If you’re going to reach your fitness goals, then it’s a good idea to look at wholesale lifestyle changes. What aspects of your current lifestyle are compromising your fitness? Making these subtle yet impactful changes can make a big difference.

    Correct Technique

It’s all good and well visiting a gym and working up a sweat, but if you’re not using the correct technique, then it’s likely that you’re not making as much progress as you might think. Before you dive too deep into your workout regime, make sure that you’re using the equipment correctly. An hour spent with a professional can do a world of good, for instance. They’ll be able to correct your technique and also offer many other useful pieces of information that’ll allow you to get the most from your workout.

    Cheat Days

As we mentioned earlier, it’s also to fall into the trap of thinking that, just because you’re working, you’re able to do whatever you want. This can involve living a lifestyle that’s far too sedentary, but also eating unhealthy foods. You may be able to keep the status quo in place by hitting the gym, but you won’t make as much progress as you would like. So try to limit the number of ‘cheat days’ that you have. Eating an unhealthy meal every couple of weeks won’t make much of a difference. Eating fast food after every workout because you’ve earned it will have a negative impact, however. So do your best to have a mindful approach to the food that you’re eating; it really will make a difference.

    Maximizing Returns

We’re always learning more about fitness and the right and wrong ways to undertake a fitness journey. There are things you can do that can push you in the right direction by giving you a slight edge. For example, you’ll find that you build more muscle by eating high-protein foods in the thirty minutes following a big workout. It’s not just about what you do after the workout, either — your mindset during the workout can also make a big difference. The Mind Muscle Connection is a science-backed approach that can yield great results, for instance. If you’re looking to get the most from your workouts, then these are the kinds of things that you should be thinking about.

    A Lack of Consistency

Once you’ve found your ideal workout routine, be sure to stick with it. Jumping around too much will just confuse your body. Remain consistent and committed to what you’re doing when you’re working out at the gym.

    No Time

We’re all busier than ever before. We all have many responsibilities, which means we can’t always do what we would like to do. And this, of course, includes working out. While you might be excited to begin your fitness journey, if you don’t have much time, then there’s only so much you can do. While you can’t magic more time out of thin air, there are things you can do that’ll help save time. For example, you could prepare a gym bag so that all you need to do is grab the bag on your way out and head to the gym. It’s also recommended that you choose a gym that’s close to your home. You might be lured by the facilities or price of one gym in your area, but if it’s too far away, then you’ll be less inclined to make the trip, especially if you don’t have much time to work with.

Elsewhere, you can look at how you’re spending your time. Many people think they’ve got no free time, but when you actually take a closer look at things, you might find that you’re spending many hours doing, well, nothing at all. Many people claim that they have much more free time when they give up social media (and overall smartphone usage), for example. It’s all about priorities. If you want to get fit and healthy, then you might have to sacrifice some of the time you spend doing other things.

    It’s Not Enjoyable

Everything is so much easier to do if we enjoy the activity. When it comes to getting into shape and improving your fitness, it’s recommended that you find an activity that you inherently enjoy. Most people choose to spend time in the gym because they have everything you need to get fit. But if you’re one of those people that really doesn’t like the gym, then it’ll be best to find a different activity instead. There are plenty to choose from! And while other activities may not be as effective as spending time in the gym, ultimately, if you end up doing another activity frequently, you’ll see results. It’s much better to spend 3 -4 hours a week doing something you like rather than forcing yourself to spend an hour in the gym.
