  • Common Fashion Challenges That Women Face

Regarding fashion, women seem to bear all the ups and downs. The positives and negatives seem centered around the countless women looking to spend a fortune on clothing and accessories. With women clothing retail sales hitting $28 million in 2020, it is easy to say that fashion is almost synonymous with ladies. Knowing this all too well, here are some annoying clothing problems you may be no stranger to.

    1. The one-size-fits-all mirage

In almost every retail store, you are bound to come across female clothing with the description, one-size-fits-all. It can be confusing trying to figure out how this is possible. Women have different body sizes, which explains their need to find appropriate cuts that complement their figures. However, the one-size-fits-all tag seems to throw a monkey wrench into the general expectation.

So, many ladies fall for what may be a clothing marketing gimmick only to realize that the dress doesn’t fit at all. The debate on this issue centers around the subtle ways clothing brands may be enforcing their own idealized body standards on ladies. Hopefully, more will buy clothes based on individual body sizes and not bunk their hopes on a one-size-fits-all dress.

    1. The tricky Spanx on bloated days

This American-owned underwear maker is estimated to be worth $400 million as of 2020. Designed with the female in mind, Spanx focuses on hiding lumps, creases, and folds on the body. When worn under tight clothing, it helps project a smooth and well-contoured female body. However, there is one little thing about wearing Spanx. This compressing shapewear can sometimes feel too tight on the body.

Women experience monthly hormonal fluctuations that may cause bloating, especially in the waist and tummy regions. And wearing Spanx on these bloated days can be pretty uncomfortable. Indeed, some ladies can endure it, but others may have to hold on until the bloated feeling disappears. It can sometimes be a real bummer when you cannot tuck that tummy in with Spanx on a bloated day.

    1. Panty lines challenges

Have you ever worn slightly snug clothing only to realize that the panty edges are on full display? This is an experience many women can relate to. According to styling experts, these result from poor panty fittings or sub-standard quality. It could explain why many American women prefer thongs to normal-sized panties.

If this is a problem you deal with, you can look for quality underwear retailers online such as EBY. They run a women’s underwear subscription, and you receive a new set of quality seamless panties every three months to fit your body type. You can forever say goodbye to visible panty lines by wearing seamless underwear with laser-cut thin edges.

    1. Jean pants with fake pockets.

Many ladies have admitted to buying new jeans only to realize later that they have no pockets. What seemed like pockets are sealed inside, and there’s no way to even fit a shopping receipt. While this is not a problem with male pants, females have to endure what could be most described as disappointing. One school of thought believes the absence of pockets compels women to invest in dressing bags and cute purses. It could be true if you wish to play the devil’s advocate.

Regardless of these problems, women continue to spend a fortune on clothing. Hopefully, you will become more circumspect the next time you go shopping.

  • Fearless Woman: Tanya Regan

    Fearless Woman: Tanya Regan

Tanya Regan is a speaker, creator, and filmmaker in Mandurah Western Australia. She uses her art of storytelling to teach, heal, connect, and inspire.

I reached out to Tanya about sharing her fearless journey and sent her some questions so that we can get all up in her fearless living business. This is what she said…

    1. Tell us what life was like before you began your fearless journey into making short social impact documentaries?

In late 2016 I was heavily pregnant with my third child and my mental health was not in a good place.

I was having a baby girl and I wanted to show her what a strong woman looked like…. AND I DID NOT FEEL LIKE A STRONG WOMAN.

I spent my days counting down the clock to when my husband would get home from work. We had only recently moved to a new town, where I did not know anyone. I was isolated and lonely. I never felt like I was doing a decent job as a mum. I felt like I did not know what I was doing. I poured all of myself into my children and there was nothing left for me.

Going into 2017 I made a new year resolution to be more creative. It was my attempt to fill my cup and do something for me, but I also did not know where to start with creativity. Just after my baby was born, I started developing myself as a creative person by doing a self-guided course in creative recovery called The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron.

Every morning I would breastfeed my baby until she fell asleep and then I held her for a couple of hours while I worked through the exercises in the book. I was scared my baby would wake up if I put her in her cot, so I just kept holding her all through her nap while I worked on ‘me’.

My creativity started to open and how I saw the world changed. I realized that creativity was not something that I had to magic from nothing, but it was an energy that I could learn how to tap into. By the time my baby was one year old I was so creatively inspired that I was making my first short film.

When I made that film, I did not even have a camera, so I borrowed my dad’s old handy cam. I used what I had, borrowed what I did not have, and I just made it work. That film was a finalist in a film festival and played in a local movie theatre on the big screen.

I knew that I had to find a way to fill my own cup again.

    2. What made you want to take the leap and start your company?

    Image of tanya reagan

It was in the process of making that first film that I was able to re-create my identity. I had lost myself in being a mum but then I found myself through being creative.

I have now made ten short documentaries. My films are about the themes of creativity, connection, and nature. It is an art for me and a way that I express myself.

    3. What have you learned about yourself during this journey?

I have learned that wherever you are in your personal life story you can always choose to be your own hero.

I was a lonely and sad, 37-year-old, stay at home mum when I made my first short film. I did not own a camera. I was new in my country town and did not even know anyone who I could interview.

Working on myself and connecting with my creativity empowered my inner magic.

    Image of tanya reagan

    4. What would you do over again before you took the leap? (If anything)

If I could do it all over again, I would have started sooner. I lost time doubting myself.

    5. What is life like since you have taken the leap into fearless living?

I feel like me again, but a better version of me because I am doing fulfilling work now. My biggest challenge now is balancing being a mum of three children who are still young, with being a filmmaker and creative person.

    6. Tell us about your films.

My films are 2 to 5 minutes long and are all human stories with a social impact message. I believe that creativity, connection, and nature have been devalued by our society and so those are the messages that play throughout my films.

My films are available to view online at www.tanyaregan.me

    7. What is one useful tip you would share about how to juggle motherhood with all the other things you are doing in life?

My biggest tip for other women juggling motherhood with all the other things we are meant to do is to know your season.

It would not have been possible for me to make a film when my baby was a newborn, however, I could breastfeed her while I developed my own creativity.

Even now, I would love to be working on a feature film, but my children are still young and of course demanding. I do not want to miss that so for me it is about finding a balance and that balance is constantly changing.

The key for me to be a good mum is to fill my cup. Creativity is one of the ways I do that, but I have also found other ways now too.

    8. What has been the most difficult part of your journey?

When I have mum life and filmmaker life in balance, I am great. When I am out of balance, which is what happened for me again at the beginning of the pandemic, it all goes a bit pear shaped.

Celebrate yourself for your own baby steps, for your own progress and know what your own limits are.

    9. What has been the most rewarding part of your journey?

The most amazing part of the creative journey is when that creative spark first hits you. There is an excitement and aliveness of making something that does not yet exist and bringing it into form. Receiving feedback from people that they feel “seen and heard” in my films as they connect to the messages, that is the cherry on the top for me.

    10. How do you stay motivated when things get tough?

(laughs) I usually have a temporary breakdown, I might cry for a bit, I let myself feel the tough feelings. Then I dust myself, take a deep breath and work with what I have.

    11. Share something about your journey that you feel is important that we have addressed.

If it feels good, do it.

If it feels heavy, put it down.

Excitement and fear can sometimes feel remarkably similar. Feel into the difference and then take inspired action.

Then take one intuitive step after the other and if things mess up be kind to yourself, be ok with mistakes, and then take another step.

One foot in front of the other, one step at a time, that is how we move forward.

Tell us what life was like before you began your fearless journey?

Even though I was an introvert kid, I was always fearless, and goal driven. I took inspiration from people around me like my brother or teachers and I wanted to be like them that kept me going farther than others. I was the best in class, I was hard working, and I was always inspired to learn more and be different. I had self-esteem issues due to my body shape and I got bullied so I did not like school too much. My favourite memories were our family vacations visiting other countries, getting to know different cultures. I was always fascinated by mythology, history and the variation of landscapes. I understood in my early age that what I was weak at I did not push, and I focused on my strength besides what my mother or the teachers said. The most common method is to do more of the things what you are weak at to bring it upso you are good in everything. I believe that you need to work on your strength to be a master of them and strive on those traits.

    2. What made you want to take the leap and start your company?

After working more than 10 years in the Oil Industry, it seemed like I am having a great life living in the best area of the capital of Hungary having an amazing corporate job as a Chief Petroleum Engineer, but I was overweight and tired and had no time for my kids.

After 1.5 years I quit this amazing job what every petroleum engineer could have been grateful for and we travelled to New Zealand with 4 suitcases and with all our savings (literally: retirement saving, real estate saving).

We were already in the immigration process for months when we made this step but to get the resident visa we had to have a job offer. The next 6-7 months we spent in paradise: Taranaki, New Zealand, finally having quality time with my kids, and enjoying life in a seaside home. Before I left to NZ, I just got my Master certificate in Reiki healing which I was practising for 10 years that time. So, I was healing myself for 6 months massively which resulted in reprogramming in my diet. I started to eat differently and at the time we returned to Hungary completely broke I started to lose weight and in 10 months I dropped 20 kgs and looked 10 years younger being in my 18 years old body. I also managed to get a contract with my old company and worked from home for them. I was extremely happy to make more money and spend more time with my kids. In this happiness something started to shift. I started to spend time on learning new skills and suddenly the world opened up. I realised I was living in a box as an engineer. I also started to meditate with people through phone and imagined a life with even more freedom I had that time. The last big kick was when I went to an event with a Karma Guru and we did the Samadhi meditation and I opened my 3rd eye. Suddenly things started to change around me, messages were coming to me, bread crumps from the Universe…..and I followed them. Within 6 month I moved to London with my kids to heal people, I left my husband who was a victim type and never understood my vision. I established my healing company and started to have healing session while I still worked for the oil company as a contractor. This was going on for a year when I felt I had to let the past go and focus on the future. It was a good timing. So now I am focusing my life coaching and healing business.

    3. What have you learned about yourself during this journey?

I realised that I need to experience everything on my skin whatever I can to grow and to enjoy life. I am a fire sign I am always passionate about everything I do. I am mostly driven by my intuitions and feelings, so I cannot do things which are not aligned with my values and my purpose.

    4. What would you do over again before you took the leap? (If anything)

Although sometimes guilt and shame surface about my decisions I still got to the conclusion that I do not regret whatever I have done because I had to experience those situations to grow into the person I am now.

    5. What is life like since you’ve taken the leap into fearless living?

My life is a continual adventure. I am a cosmopolitan who lived in 8 countries and travelled 13 more. I am a yes person and always looking for new challenges otherwise I don’t have enough variety in my life. I spent 2020 to gain recognition and authority in my expertise. I was featured in several media outlets and have been invited to present in summits. I am continually learning new modalities to serve my clients better and I am also creating programs to reach more people with my services.

    6. Tell us about your book.

I was a co-author in 3 books in 2020 and became a #1 international best seller. But my own book is on the way to publishing this year, currently with the editor. The title of my book is “On the Healer’s Journey”, it is a coaching book for light workers who are on the fence and feel frustrated how to embody their journey. But it also holds great advices and fresh knowledge to already working spiritual healers. I received great testimonials from friends and clients who had the chance to read some chapters. So, I feel really positive about the welcoming of my book. I felt that more and more people decided to become a healer but struggle because lacking simple basic knowledge what could support them to heal more effectively and help them protect themselves. The first 13 chapters are the coaching part, the rest of the chapters includes more basic information for example about chakras, the parts of the mind, how to clean your aura, what is Samadhi meditation explained on a unique way.

    7. What is one useful tip you would share with someone if you were their life coach?

    Balance is the key word.

Many successful people are encouraging their followers to hustle and sacrifice their health even just for temporary. I do not agree with this approach. We need to take care and protect our vessel. We need to have rest time too and need to fill our cups. Also, the balance is very important when we are a healer and connect to the Universal energies, to our higher dimensional existence. It is recommended to root ourselves to the Mother Earth to stay grounded and take care of our 3D needs.

    8. What has been the most difficult part of your journey?

Control my thoughts and words, because I manifest powerfully. It is enough just to say a sentence out to the thin air, and it is happening within weeks, bad or good. Then my head is just spinning while I try to fix it.

    9. What has been the most rewarding part of your journey?

To see my clients to find peace and joy again. We tend to accept what is happening to us if we see that our neighbour or friend is suffering from the same issue. We believe it is “normal” and we feel safe. Although if we are open to the possibility that we are worthy enough to have a healthy and happy life without struggles we will see that there are solutions for every problem out there and we can stop our struggles if we are not that limited.

    10. How do you stay motivated when things get tough?

I know that everything is happening for a reason. I need to go through certain experiences to grow. When I have to spend time in bed due to a flu or other issues, I know the Universe/God wants me to just meditate, heal and get prepared for his rewards. I can recall that before amazing blessings arrived at my life I was in bed with a serious infection or illness. I did not get discouraged, I was patient and spend all my time meditating and healing, raising my vibration and visualizing my goals. I believe that was what I was expected to do. The law of rhythm assures us that nothing is forever, tough time should pass. But be aware that the good times too, so always be grateful and don’t take anything for granted.

    11. As a speaker, what’s one thing you always try to convey to your audience?

You are never alone; separation is an illusion. Everything is connected and nothing is a coincidence.

We are safe, supported and loved. All the negative emotions are created by you, and they make you sick and unhappy. You can decide to choose positive emotions and protect yourselves from troubles. When you have buried emotional traumas need to release them to get healed and not to get triggered by your environment. The main pillar of my services is the emotional trauma healing what I do through source memory healing, which is a 60 000 year old Karma Yogi technique. Until now I mostly had VIP 1:1 client, but I decided to bring this solution to the masses through a magical live entertaining experience in a workshop environment, where the participants will be able to experience their multidimensional existence while become liberated from their traumas. I am planning to bring this unique experience to millions through a TV show which will be recorded in LA in a historical theatre starting later this year. My aim is to revolutionize the spiritual entertainment industry.

  • Fearless Woman: Lynn Power (Haircare Entrepreneur)

Fearless Woman: Lynn Power (Haircare Entrepreneur)

Lynn Power left a successful 30 year advertising career, as CEO of J. Walter Thompson NY, to become an entrepreneur. She launched MASAMI, a clean premium haircare, in February 2020. And hasn’t looked back since.

I wanted to know more about her fearless journey, so I reached out to ask her some questions. Here is what she said…

Tell us what life was like before you began your fearless journey?

I had been working in the advertising industry for my entire career and was running agencies. At the time, I was the CEO of J. Walter Thompson NY. But, I found that I wasn’t enjoying it much anymore. I was dealing with a lot of administrative work (HR issues, legal issues, finance meetings, etc) and had gotten away from what drew me to the industry in the first place — building brands.

What made you want to take the leap and start your company?

I decided it was time to stop building other people’s brands and to start doing it for myself. When I left J. Walter Thompson, I actually started a brand consultancy with a partner. We worked almost exclusively with startups which I really enjoyed. I found it fulfilling to make a direct impact on their business in a very tangible way. But then I met my co-founder James, who had been working on haircare formulations for about 10 years. I loved what he was doing. We decided to partner together to launch MASAMI which we founded in 2018 and haven’t looked back.

    Masami Haircare Clean Products

What have you learned about yourself during this journey?

I am much more adaptable and entrepreneurial than I realized. I always knew I had an entrepreneurial gene (both my parents were small biz owners) but I wasn’t sure I would like the “grind” of it. But it turns out, I like the flexibility of working when I want and controlling my schedule. And of course, launching during Covid certainly has given me a perspective on how to pivot and not get too caught up in your plans.

What would you do over again before you took the leap? (If anything)

I would take some time to build up my clean beauty network and also a network of peers and advisors. That has been incredibly helpful and I always advise other entrepreneurs to make sure they have a strong network, but there is no reason to wait until you leave your job and start your business to do that. You should always be growing your connections and network — you never know when it might come in handy.

What is life like since you’ve taken the leap into fearless living?

I have crafted my business around my lifestyle — which is super flexible. I like being able to work in Palm Spring, NYC, The Berkshires, wherever. And now with my own business, it’s been great to be able to create my life the way I want it. I like to blend my business and personal lives (for me that works super well), so I work with friends, my kids help out and my husband is our investor. It all comes together in a really fulfilling way.

    Tell us about your company.

MASAMI is clean premium haircare with a Japanese ocean botanical that’s all about hydration. Our formulas are high performing but don’t weigh your hair down — which is something our customers really love. We are also gender neutral, vegan and cruelty free. And of course, have no sulfates, parabens or phthalates. We are a DTC+ brand (we have our own e-commerce site but are also sold on Amazon, in stores like Showfields and Verishop and have salon partnerships with Spoke & Weal and DreamDry).

What is one useful tip you would share about entrepreneurship?

Make sure you understand your product and market fit (how scalable is your idea) and spend time nailing your brand proposition and brand values. This is incredibly helpful as you grow, bring new people into the team and launch new products. All too often, I’ve seen founders focus on the product vs. the brand and end up with messy messaging that needs to be reworked later.

What has been the most difficult part of your journey?

Well, launching during Covid has certainly been interesting. It caused us to rethink our salon strategy (as most were closed for most of 2020) and focus on content and e-commerce. So, the unpredictability of it all has been a hard adjustment. But it taught us to go with the flow.

What has been the most rewarding part of your journey?

I’ve really enjoyed getting feedback from our customers about how our products have transformed their hair. And we’ve created a large size ceramic bottle with refills that I love because it enables us to help the beauty industry evolve and become more sustainable which is part of our mission.

How do you stay motivated when things get tough?

I’m lucky that I have an amazing network of supporters, friends and family who have been amazing. It’s easy to be positive when things are going well, but you really see the character of your team when things are tough and we’ve all had each other’s backs, which makes me feel like we’re in it for the long haul.

    Lynn Power - Masami Haircare

Share something about your journey that you feel is important that we have not addressed.

Both James and I are “older” founders — MASAMI officially launched in February 2020 at New York Fashion week. We were both 53. You are never too old to do what you love.
