What’s Make U Feel Pretty, No Matter What?

There is a distinct difference in being called pretty and actually feeling pretty.  You can receive compliments from the moment you leave the house until the moment you return.  That doesn’t mean that you feel it.  And if there’s one thing this fashionista knows is that you have to believe it to achieve it.  There is a great sense of security and confidence that comes when feel like you look good.  You walk around the room with you head higher, shoulders back more with a bigger smile.  Feeling pretty gives you the confidence to put yourself on full display.  No amount of compliments or wedding proposals will do it!

Think about it this way…it would be very difficult for a person to stand in front of a room full of people and give a speech, for instance, if they didn’t feel confident.  Their insecurities would show through to the audience like a chiffon top.  That is one reason why  feeling it is so important.

That thing differs depending on the person.  It might be your LBD you wear on special occasions or your first pair of leather stilettos.  For me, it is red lipstick.  No matter what I’m wearing or how bad of a hair day I’m having, popping red lips always make me feel sexy and confident.

So, we asked four women “What’s the one thing that makes you feel pretty no matter what?”  and here’s what they said:

The one piece in my wardrobe that makes me feel absolutely beautiful and comfortable is a bodysuit. Bodysuits have a way of making me feel completely dressed in very little effort, no need to worry about tucking in or worrying about fixing your top because it always stays in place. This piece has the power to compliment your body like nothing else and mixes and matches with most of your wardrobe. Getting dressed in a haste is fun again especially when you feel good. Try a bodysuit and you won’t regret it!

I have a bright fuchsia maxi dress that I adore. It’s a maternity one so it’s saw me through two different pregnancies, and I can still wear it after baby too. It’s one of those pieces that no matter how big my belly is it always flatters, looks great and is a wonderful colour on me!  Here is a pic of me wearing it (and feeling great!) at 39 weeks pregnant with my second boy.

I recently found a quote from the beautiful and classy Sophia Loren,

‘Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes. It is not something physical’.

I embarked on a question of my own life and if it had become too jumbled.  With over 34 years of working in the hair and beauty industry, it makes sense to have insight in what makes you feel pretty.  The power of the hairdresser to transform a client and their inner beauty is a super power that only a hairdresser can really understand. Every day we are working with our clients and our focal point is to make them feel pretty and look beautiful.   The business of feeling pretty on the inside is a skill that takes many years to perfect. As a hairdresser it is important to be excellent listeners and remember to pay attention to the details.   We have numerous clients that come in to see us when their inner beauty simply needs a reset. As hairdressers it brings us joy to see our clients transform in front us as we perform our services and without a doubt you see it in their eyes and it’s not uncommon we get tears of joy when they depart a truly emotional expression of their inner beauty glowing with physical prettiness.   Go see your hairdresser and be touched by their super powers of making you look and feel pretty.

Both sets of my pearls are very sentimental to me! My brother whom is a veteran gave me these pearl earrings on arriving home from a deployment overseas. My bracelet was given to me for my 30th birthday by my beautiful friends as I was having a particularly rough time, recovering from a car accident. I was in a wheelchair for several years, this photo was taken two weeks ago during a photo shoot for my upcoming book, ‘Shine Your Light!’ I love wearing my pearls! They make me so happy as they were given to me with so much love! <3

  • 7 Styles To Shop For In Fall/Winter ’16

7 Styles To Shop For In Fall/Winter ’16

Fall officially started a few weeks back.  But you can’t tell some of us that because we are still enjoying warm, sunny days, denim cutoffs and time by the pool.

Depending on where you reside, a leather moto jacket will comfortably keep you warm. Or you may find yourself in need of some serious gear to protect you against Mother Nature.  No matter which storm is headed your way, now is a better time than any to make sure you are stylish for its arrival.

Check out these 7 styles to shop for that will help you to fashionably, fight, fierce colder temps in Fall/Winter ’16…

    1. Let Your Shoulder Lean

You can continue to rock cutout styles as the weather changes.  Thank goodness for that.  Make the look cold weather ready by going with long sleeves.

    2.  Velvet, Suede, Leather, oh my…

One of my personal favorites about colder temps is the ability to wear other textures.  Suede, leather, velvet and other thicker materials don’t get to really play during the Summer.  Everything from suede flares to velvet skirts, leather gloves and more.  Fall is definitely the time to experiment with different fabrics.

    3.  Rock the Trench

A trench coat is one of the best combinations of chic and flattering when it comes to outerwear.  The belt creates a defined waist and the bottom slightly flares out.  Thus, showing off the hourglass you’re hiding underneath.  🙌

    4.  Show your military support.

Military -inspired styles will be all over the place this Fall & Winter.  Rock it and prepare to be saluted like a fashion solider.

    5.  Something mint, something blue…

These sorbert colors are usually in abundance during the Spring/Summer but don’t let that stray you.  Pairing these light, girly colors with dark, edgy colors is the color palette for Fall/Winer ’16.

    6.  Luxe Outerwear

Stylish outerwear is of the upmost importance during Fall/Winter seasons for obvious reasons.  Since it will probably be seen alot more that your outfit, make sure to select one that makes you feel great

    7.  Wrap Up In Wool

Wool will effectively keep you warm, for sure.  But that doesn’t mean wearing a hot, chunky cable knit sweater.  This two piece wool set is a great example of just how fly wool can be.

    Which is your favorite?

This D.I.Y. Tip Will Refresh Your ❤️ For Denim

Most of us have had a long-term relationship with denim.  It has probably been in your life for as long as you can remember.  It has for me anyway.  You couldn’t tell me anything as a little girl when I wore a colored pair of Jordache jeans with my cowboy boots!

But as with any other relationship, it has its ups and downs.  If they are too tight you may feel smothered and restricted, like a clingy guy.  Other times, a great fitting pair can make you feel like the best looking thing in the room.  Similar to the Bae who always knows how to compliment his lady. 😉  It’s pretty clear we are united ’til death do us part.  So how does a fashionista refresh her relationship with denim without upgrading to a whole new pair?

Check out this super, super, super simple way to upgrade your jeans so you can get that love thing back! 💖

  • 10 Basic Jewelry Pieces That Look Good On Everyone

10 Basic Jewelry Pieces That Look Good On Everyone

Jewelry store owner, Natalia Prostakova, shares her tips on picking the perfect pieces.

Chokers, feather earrings and massive necklaces may not be for everyone. Here are some basic tips on how make the best choice of jewelry.

Pick Items That Are In Harmony With Your body

Delicate and tiny jewelry can “get lost” on a curvaceous woman. It is better to choose bigger accessories. And vice versa – ladies with delicate constitution should avoid massive jewelry and wear almost invisible, light accessories.

    Quality

With proper care gold and silver jewelry will last forever and will become your heirloom. If you wish to add some fashion jewelry to your collection – choose smart. High quality bijouterie should not contain nickel, cadmium, lead and chrome – they are toxic and might cause an allergy reaction. Choose fashion jewelry made of surgical steel with titanium layer or hypoallergic polish.

    Combination

To mix and match jewelry make sure it has common features, such as shape or color. If you own a set of jewelry in which all items are very similar to each other by their design, try to wear maximum 2 items of this set together – a ring + a pendant or earrings + a ring. Otherwise you’re going to look provincial and cheap as if you’re wearing everything you have together.

Here are my Top 10 jewelry items that do look well on everybody!

    1. A Pendant

    beyindipendant

A simple pendant on a thin chain looks nice and airy and V-shape of the accessory makes the silhouette longer and elegantly embellishes the neckline. Do not forget the rule of harmony – the more curvy the shapes are – the bigger the pendant and the thicker the chain.

    2. Stud Earrings

    beyindi stud earrings

It’s a must have. They will embellish your ears at the opera theater and during the morning run in the park. They might be round or any geometrical shape, with framing or without it, with low cost cubic zirconia or luxury diamonds. In any case stud earrings do not take too much attention and just accentuate the beauty of the face and a true taste of the wearer. Basic item – stud earrings with clear stones or white pearls.

    3. Hoop Earrings

    silver hoop earrings with diamonds

From small to big size – the choice should follow your face features and your preferences. The basic rule is – the earrings should look as light as a feather.

    4. Classic Earrings

    beyindiearrings

They are very feminine and are the best choice for a cocktail party. Basic item – middle size hoop earrings with crystals or clear stones.

    5. Pendant Earrings

    beyindipendantearrings

For special occasions choose pendant earrings with transparent or colored black or white stones. The length of the earrings should be proportional to your face and neck – the main rule is – the earrings should look light and comfortable to wear.

    6. Watches

    beyindiwatch

It’s not really jewelry, but it’s a very important accessory that influences the total look and style. It’s better to have a few watches for different seasons of the year. For example, white color watches are perfect for a spring and summer, while metal or leather ones look more proper during fall and winter.

    7. Short Thin Chain

    beyindichain

For your favorite pendant or light lavaliere. Optimal length – 45-55 cm.

    8. Long Thin Chain

    beyindichain

Makes your silhouette long and slim, best choice for Bardot neck. Optimal length – 100-120 cm.

    9. Thin Ring

    beyindiring

Very simple ring with smooth and thin base. Could be with a clear stone of moderate size.

    10. Bracelet

    beyindibracelet

A thin chain bracelet is a base accessory. Will suit any outfit. To add more personality to the look chose a bracelet with pendants or beads.

It’s easy to get lost in fashion trends and huge variety of jewelry. Shop smart, remember about these basic rules and jewelry combinations and you will always look stunning in any outfit and in every place.

  • Forget Carrie Bradshaw, These TV Actresses Have Great Style Too!

Forget Carrie Bradshaw, These TV Actresses Have Great Style Too!

Girls from Sex In The City
Sex In The City | 📷 from Pinterest

In 1998, on a hot Summer night, I like the rest of the world, was introduced to Miranda, Carrie, Samantha, and Charlotte.  Miranda was my lawyer friend that had the pretty red hair and wore business suits that fit her body to perfection but who advise was shaky, to say the least.  Charlotte was my bestie who was somewhat of a prude but had a huge heart and is super lovable.  Samantha was my sexy and carefree friend who’s advise always ended in an orgasm, not that I’m complaining.  And Carrie…well, she was witty, had a dream job, a pick of two hot men (one of which was filthy rich) and had a fearless sense of style.  Yep, we were besties in my head!  Each Sunday,  we enjoyed sipping Cosmopolitans at the hottest spot in town,  partaking in the best convos that a girl squad could possibly have, while wearing the dress, those shoes, and that clutch that always made me feel like a million bucks!  Hey, living and working in Manhattan wasn’t easy but someone had to do it, right?

As you can see, the girls from Sex & The City are part of the squad and always will be!  But…is it just me or have you noticed that Carrie Bradshaw is almost, always mentioned as “the style icon”  when the topic of tv and fashion comes up.  I mean, the girl could DRESS, don’t get it twisted, her and her crew weren’t the only girls in the late 90’s and early 2000s that appeared on the small screen that had style that we should take note of.

Here are five tv shows that had a girl squad who killed the fashion scene during the same time…

    Melrose Place 1992-1999

Although, this show ended one year after the premiere of Sex & The City, the fashion that was displayed on camera for 7 years cannot be forgotten.  The Melrose Place clan was less about dressing glam and more about being stylish in their everyday life.  Maxis, simple bodycon dresses, vests paired with a bodysuit and BF jeans were the styles you would find these girls in.  The ladies were even rocking off the shoulder tops with denim skirts.

    Charmed 1999-2006

    📷 Pinterest | Gifs Bustle.com

The witches from Charmed made fashion statements that all of us could’ve borrowed a tip or two from.  They didn’t shy away from wearing bold colors and patterns.  And like most women in their 20s…showing some skin was always in!  Pairing denim with anything cropped, sheer, crochet and other skin baring materials were staples in their wardrobe.

     Girlfriends 2000-2008

    📷 Pinterest

Now, these girls were slaying waaay before the word became popular.   Firstly, each of them had an insane body so they would kill it in a brown paper bag.  Good thing, they didn’t because if they did, then you would’ve seen me wearing a bag, belted, with a cute pair of wedges.   Each of the girls had a different personality and their style said so.  Toni had sultry lips with a style to match and helped to influence my love of bold lipstick.   Maya was a tiny trash talker who could be found in front of the camera in a pretty, body con dress that put her body on full display.  Lynn was the boho chic who graced each episode in flowy dresses, tops, and let’s not forget her signature arm cuffs.   Joan confidently rocked chic jumpers, low cut dresses, and shoulder baring tops like a true fearless fashionista.

    Felicity 1998 – 2002

    📷 Pinterest

Felicity and her girl gang proved that you don’t have to dress like a bum to be a college student.  These fresh-faced girls wore tailored jeans, slim cut blazers, and smart loafers. The students styled in button front maxi dresses, lace up booties and hats with a brim.  Roaming the campus while handling the ups and downs of a college student never looked so stylish!

    Moesha 1996-2001

    📷 Pinterest

The cast of Moesha was full of trendsetters!  The crew were also college students but bummy definitely wasn’t on the dress code.  Leather jeans, bold ethnic prints, headscarves and tie dye leggings with matching tops were just some of the looks that appeared on the show.  They defined, Go bold or go home!  And let us not forget how Moesha reminded us just how much we needed to rock box braids like an urban goddess.

As you can see, Carrie wasn’t the only stylish chic with an insanely fashionable squad. These shows were setting fashion trends, some of which, we are still rocking ’til this day.  And don’t you forget it. 😉

What stylish show would you add to the list that was relative during the Sex & The City era?
