7 Styles To Shop For In Fall/Winter ’16

Fall officially started a few weeks back.  But you can’t tell some of us that because we are still enjoying warm, sunny days, denim cutoffs and time by the pool.

Depending on where you reside, a leather moto jacket will comfortably keep you warm. Or you may find yourself in need of some serious gear to protect you against Mother Nature.  No matter which storm is headed your way, now is a better time than any to make sure you are stylish for its arrival.

Check out these 7 styles to shop for that will help you to fashionably, fight, fierce colder temps in Fall/Winter ’16…

    1. Let Your Shoulder Lean

You can continue to rock cutout styles as the weather changes.  Thank goodness for that.  Make the look cold weather ready by going with long sleeves.

    2.  Velvet, Suede, Leather, oh my…

One of my personal favorites about colder temps is the ability to wear other textures.  Suede, leather, velvet and other thicker materials don’t get to really play during the Summer.  Everything from suede flares to velvet skirts, leather gloves and more.  Fall is definitely the time to experiment with different fabrics.

    3.  Rock the Trench

A trench coat is one of the best combinations of chic and flattering when it comes to outerwear.  The belt creates a defined waist and the bottom slightly flares out.  Thus, showing off the hourglass you’re hiding underneath.  🙌

    4.  Show your military support.

Military -inspired styles will be all over the place this Fall & Winter.  Rock it and prepare to be saluted like a fashion solider.

    5.  Something mint, something blue…

These sorbert colors are usually in abundance during the Spring/Summer but don’t let that stray you.  Pairing these light, girly colors with dark, edgy colors is the color palette for Fall/Winer ’16.

    6.  Luxe Outerwear

Stylish outerwear is of the upmost importance during Fall/Winter seasons for obvious reasons.  Since it will probably be seen alot more that your outfit, make sure to select one that makes you feel great

    7.  Wrap Up In Wool

Wool will effectively keep you warm, for sure.  But that doesn’t mean wearing a hot, chunky cable knit sweater.  This two piece wool set is a great example of just how fly wool can be.

    Which is your favorite?

This D.I.Y. Tip Will Refresh Your ❤️ For Denim

Most of us have had a long-term relationship with denim.  It has probably been in your life for as long as you can remember.  It has for me anyway.  You couldn’t tell me anything as a little girl when I wore a colored pair of Jordache jeans with my cowboy boots!

But as with any other relationship, it has its ups and downs.  If they are too tight you may feel smothered and restricted, like a clingy guy.  Other times, a great fitting pair can make you feel like the best looking thing in the room.  Similar to the Bae who always knows how to compliment his lady. 😉  It’s pretty clear we are united ’til death do us part.  So how does a fashionista refresh her relationship with denim without upgrading to a whole new pair?

Check out this super, super, super simple way to upgrade your jeans so you can get that love thing back! 💖

  • Forget Carrie Bradshaw, These TV Actresses Have Great Style Too!

Forget Carrie Bradshaw, These TV Actresses Have Great Style Too!

Girls from Sex In The City
Sex In The City | 📷 from Pinterest

In 1998, on a hot Summer night, I like the rest of the world, was introduced to Miranda, Carrie, Samantha, and Charlotte.  Miranda was my lawyer friend that had the pretty red hair and wore business suits that fit her body to perfection but who advise was shaky, to say the least.  Charlotte was my bestie who was somewhat of a prude but had a huge heart and is super lovable.  Samantha was my sexy and carefree friend who’s advise always ended in an orgasm, not that I’m complaining.  And Carrie…well, she was witty, had a dream job, a pick of two hot men (one of which was filthy rich) and had a fearless sense of style.  Yep, we were besties in my head!  Each Sunday,  we enjoyed sipping Cosmopolitans at the hottest spot in town,  partaking in the best convos that a girl squad could possibly have, while wearing the dress, those shoes, and that clutch that always made me feel like a million bucks!  Hey, living and working in Manhattan wasn’t easy but someone had to do it, right?

As you can see, the girls from Sex & The City are part of the squad and always will be!  But…is it just me or have you noticed that Carrie Bradshaw is almost, always mentioned as “the style icon”  when the topic of tv and fashion comes up.  I mean, the girl could DRESS, don’t get it twisted, her and her crew weren’t the only girls in the late 90’s and early 2000s that appeared on the small screen that had style that we should take note of.

Here are five tv shows that had a girl squad who killed the fashion scene during the same time…

    Melrose Place 1992-1999

Although, this show ended one year after the premiere of Sex & The City, the fashion that was displayed on camera for 7 years cannot be forgotten.  The Melrose Place clan was less about dressing glam and more about being stylish in their everyday life.  Maxis, simple bodycon dresses, vests paired with a bodysuit and BF jeans were the styles you would find these girls in.  The ladies were even rocking off the shoulder tops with denim skirts.

    Charmed 1999-2006

    📷 Pinterest | Gifs Bustle.com

The witches from Charmed made fashion statements that all of us could’ve borrowed a tip or two from.  They didn’t shy away from wearing bold colors and patterns.  And like most women in their 20s…showing some skin was always in!  Pairing denim with anything cropped, sheer, crochet and other skin baring materials were staples in their wardrobe.

     Girlfriends 2000-2008

    📷 Pinterest

Now, these girls were slaying waaay before the word became popular.   Firstly, each of them had an insane body so they would kill it in a brown paper bag.  Good thing, they didn’t because if they did, then you would’ve seen me wearing a bag, belted, with a cute pair of wedges.   Each of the girls had a different personality and their style said so.  Toni had sultry lips with a style to match and helped to influence my love of bold lipstick.   Maya was a tiny trash talker who could be found in front of the camera in a pretty, body con dress that put her body on full display.  Lynn was the boho chic who graced each episode in flowy dresses, tops, and let’s not forget her signature arm cuffs.   Joan confidently rocked chic jumpers, low cut dresses, and shoulder baring tops like a true fearless fashionista.

    Felicity 1998 – 2002

    📷 Pinterest

Felicity and her girl gang proved that you don’t have to dress like a bum to be a college student.  These fresh-faced girls wore tailored jeans, slim cut blazers, and smart loafers. The students styled in button front maxi dresses, lace up booties and hats with a brim.  Roaming the campus while handling the ups and downs of a college student never looked so stylish!

    Moesha 1996-2001

    📷 Pinterest

The cast of Moesha was full of trendsetters!  The crew were also college students but bummy definitely wasn’t on the dress code.  Leather jeans, bold ethnic prints, headscarves and tie dye leggings with matching tops were just some of the looks that appeared on the show.  They defined, Go bold or go home!  And let us not forget how Moesha reminded us just how much we needed to rock box braids like an urban goddess.

As you can see, Carrie wasn’t the only stylish chic with an insanely fashionable squad. These shows were setting fashion trends, some of which, we are still rocking ’til this day.  And don’t you forget it. 😉

What stylish show would you add to the list that was relative during the Sex & The City era?

  • Styling In A Cape

    Styling In A Cape

Capes are one of my favorite trends.  The style is very simplistic but it’s so defining that it is the “it” piece to any outfit.  I’ve always found that it’s one of my most asked about garments when I go out wearing it.  “Where did you get that from?”“Now that’s interesting” or “love your cape” are just a few of the comments but I’ve surely heard them all.  Perhaps it’s the intrigue that a cape gives you.  Do people revert to their favorite cape wearing super hero and suddenly feel safe?   Or is it simply because the admirers know that the wearer of this fab piece is c-o-n-f-i-d-e-n-t.  And they are either hating or appreciating.  Either way, who cares…a girl has to wear what makes her feel good, right?

So, if you already have one in your fashion arsenal or if you are considering coping one yourself, check out these chic ways to wear a cape!

    • Rock it with a flirty short skirt and booties.  This look is perfect for the office and after hours.
    • Go sexy with denim cutoffs and a body chain.
    • Add a lace top, jeans, and cute heels for a casual look.

  • Go Sporty Without Looking Like You’re Headed For The Gym

I was recently contacted by a reader who asked,  “How do I dress sporty without looking like I’m going to the gym?”  My first thought was to wonder what a fashionista would consider sporty.  T-shirts, jeans, and sneakers?   Yoga pants, tanks, and flip-flops?   Casual or dressy?  Does it cause a flash back to the 90s when the Spice Girls were everywhere spreading their girl power?  Who could forget Sporty Spice dancing in a sports bra style top with track pants and sneakers?

sporty spice of the spice girls
    Melanie Chisholm 📷 from pinterest

No shade to her style, but let’s just say that track pants aren’t always fitting for the occasion.

For fun, I looked up sporty in the dictionary.  It said flashy or showy in dress or behavior; casual yet attractively stylish.  Couldn’t agree more myself. 😏

Rest assured…you don’t have to look like you’re headed to a burn session on the treadmill.  It’s actually quite the opposite.  Here are the outfits to prove it:

olive bodysuit black skirt tennis shoes outfit blue labels boutique

Wearing sneakers with dresses and skirts is an easy way to take the look from dressy to sporty.

Trousers | Clutch | Rings & Sunglasses | Cavs Sweatshirt

You can root for your team in a sporty style, too!  Rock a team sweatshirt or jersey with pieces that are super feminine like stack rings, sunglasses and a cute clutch bag.

red jumpsuit, silver hat, stud earrings, choker necklace

    Jumpsuit | Accessories | Heels – Pinterest

A baseball hat does the trick.

As you can see, dressing sporty doesn’t mean you have to look like you actually going to play a sport.  It’s more like taking a stylish outfit and putting a casual twist to it.  Are you a sporty girl?  Which look is your favorite?

  • A Must Cop | Faux Suede Choker

A must cop is something that you must have in your collection and this is one of those pieces.  A choker is definitely the “it” piece of the moment.  There’s no size requirements, no style requirements and it accentuates one of the smallest parts on your body.  What’s not to like?

It’s 68″ long which gives you plenty of length to wrap it with no clasp.  Simply wrap this cool choker around your neck and you’re ready to go. 😉

  • Rebates Zone Interview | BLB

    Rebates Zone Interview | BLB

I love online shopping!  It’s one of my favorite conveniences to date.  I’m guilty of spending hours looking for the perfect curtains, or shoes that I really “need”.  But no matter how full my shopping cart gets, there’s one thing that I ALWAYS do before continuing to checkout.   That one thing is doing my research to see if I can get a discount.  Oh yes, I’m all about getting the best bang for my buck! 😉

It usually goes something like this.  I do a search through my email to see if the company has sent me any coupons.  That’s one of the reasons that I always subscribe to receive newsletters from companies that I really like.  I slide all of them into a folder, then search them for coupons when I’m ready to order.  That method almost always works.  But if not, my second option is to do a Google search for that company.  This is a hit or miss method simply because most of the coupons that pop up have already expired.

As you can see, I take it seriously!

Luckily, I’ve found a solution!  Ever heard of Rebateszone.com?  It is a website that offers access to coupon codes to over 10,000 stores!  Everything from shoes to children clothes, beauty products and more!  So when Kyle Ward from Rebateszone offered to do an interview about Blue Labels Boutique, I happily replied, “Heck yes!”    I have included the interview below:

Being able to buy your clothes and accessories is a huge convenience but buying online always carries the risk of delivering poor quality products. Blue Labels Boutique was launched in 2013 to provide people access to bold and fearless items of clothing and accessories and so far it has been highly successful in its mission. Blue Labels Boutique takes great pride in providing the best online shopping experience possible.

We were lucky enough to get in touch with the management of Blue Labels Boutique and Kristie Glenn graciously answered all the questions we asked.

    1. How has been the experience of selling fashion accessories and clothes online so far?

It has been quite an experience, to say the least! Blue Labels Boutique has only been open for a short amount of time. The only thing I knew when I started is that I loved being able to express myself through style and I wanted to share that passion with others. So everything from website design, marketing, and all things involved with opening a new business was completely new to me. It has been fun and difficult learning new things, meeting new people across the world, and increasing my knowledge in being a fashion entrepreneur. Those experiences have made the bumps along the road worth it.

    1. You offer dozens of kinds of clothes in a range of sizes, what kinds of issues do you face in the handling of inventory from such a broad range?

Handling the inventory is no easy task. The great thing about my boutique is that styles are available limited quantities. So the inventory is constantly changing. I do a weekly inventory check. It’s pretty easy as long as I keep the numbers updated because the site is set up to send me a notification when an item is sold out or is close to selling out.

    1. How has been the response of your customers to the idea of buying their dresses and accessories online?

In the beginning, the customer response was slow due to low traffic and minimal advertisement but the customers’ response has steadily grown as the boutique has worked to create a brand. Social media and the traveling pop-up shops that we offer have helped to increase customers’ response greatly. It’s been really exciting!

    1. Which kind of dresses do you think are the most popular at the moment?

Right now, the most popular trend in dresses is the off the shoulder style. Everyone is rocking everything from mini dresses to maxi dresses, as long as they have the off the shoulder sleeve style!

    1. What are your plans for the future and where do you see the company in a few years?

In a few years, I see Blue Labels Boutique being known as the top shopping destination for fearless women who want a curated selection of unique women’s clothes and accessories. Not only that but to have expanded the message to live fashionably, fearless. Because fear holds you back but fashion will take you places!

I hope this gives you a bit more behind the scenes look about BLB.  And don’t forget about saving time and money at  RebatesZone.com during your next online shopping excursion.
