  • 14 Ways To Celebrate Black History Month (in your own way)

As you probably are aware, February is designated as Black History Month.  It started in 1926 as a way to celebrate the history and accomplishments of African American people.

During this month long celebration you can search and find many ethnic festivals, networking events, educational workshops, parties, and more. Each and every one of us can celebrate this holiday. Besides, we could all use some unity with all of the things that are going on in the world right now, would you agree? So, as a way to help you kick off Black History Month 2017, I’ve curated a list.  But not just any list.  Check out this random list of 14 ways to show some love during Black History Month.  In your own way, of course!

    1. Focus on the positive.  You might wonder what being positive has to do with Black History Month?  Well, everything you do should start with a positive mindset, why not?

    2. Beat your face with black owned beauty products such as KA’OIR, Black Up Cosmetics, and Magonolia Makeup to name a few.

    3. Follower a new blogger.  Afrobella offers hair, makeup, style, shopping tips and more.

    4.  Style comes from inspiration so get inspired by following a new style blogger on Instagram.  @fromsunnywithlove, @sadeaspence, and @economyofstyle are some of my favorites.

    5. Get your finances all the way together with tips from The Black Business School.

    6.  Did you know that 12 out of 1,000 babies born to women of color are dying?  You can help change that by giving to the Birthing Project.  This non-profit focuses on helping to change that through free childbirth education, mentorship, labor support, and breastfeeding education.

    7. Introduce yourself to a new designer.  Reuben Reuel is one that you will want to know.  His designs feature bold, ethnic fabrics that you will love as much as I do.

    8. If you are an entrepreneur; get smart entrepreneurial tips and hear inspiring interviews on Sakita Holleys’ podcast, Hashtags & Stilettos.

    9. Purchase art from an uber talented artist at Citizens.com.  There you will find unique black art that you won’t find anywhere else.

    10. Learn something new.  For instance, did you know Madam CJ Walker created her own line of hair care products in the early 1900s.  As a result of her success, she became one of the first female African American self-made millionaires.

    11. Support A Movement  – Rasheda Kamaria Williams has been featured in one of our past episodes of Fearless Woman Episodes.  She created a movement that involves mentoring youth to encourage empowerment. www.empoweredflowergirl.com.

    12. Try a new headwrap.  I love, love, love the boldness of wearing a scarf wrapped around my hair.  If you’re into it too then you must take a look at Constant Covering.  They offer an array of bold and not-so-bold head wraps.  Plus, they are are lined with satin on the inside to protect your hair!

    13. Support a movie that tells a story that most didn’t know.  Two words…Hidden Figures.

    14. Learn how to cook something new.  @DivasCanCook is a YouTube Channel which creates cooking tutorials creating dishes you will die for!  Warning: May cause extreme hunger 😁

Now get to celebrating!   Do you have a Black History Month tradition? Or will you be showing love with some things off this list?
