Hey Mama, It Is Time To Put Yourself Back On The List

  • Hey Mama, It Is Time To Put Yourself Back On The List

Hey Fam! Long time no see, long time no read or long time no, post??? I don’t know.

    Anyway…

I hope 2026 gives you everything your mind can imagine. In all of the good ways, of course.

I haven’t been posting on my blog lately. I have really missed yall! Ive been posting to YouTube, very heavy. It’s been so fun sharing my fitness journey. I’ve shared my story on and off here. And I will continue to do so.

Not gonna lie though. This journey has been THE hardest. Trying to juggle the many hats that are required to take care of a family. Y’all know what I’m talking about. Then, I have the nerve to try to get back fit? I must’ve have been tripping, right?

Nope! I have been finding me in this journey.

I took myself off my list without even realizing it.

Why? Well for one, because I was guilt-stricken about every decision I wanted to make that was solely about me. I’m talking about everything! Taking a shower alone, taking too long while doing my hair, exercising, getting a pedicure, shopping or anything that didnt involve my family. For no damn reason.

I felt selfish because I was blessed with the family that I prayed for. Anything that didn’t involve that family must be selfish, right??

My husband stays encouraging me to get out. The only thing stopping me was me.

At one point I was unemployed, overstimulated 24/7, depressed, and had gained hella weight. I wasn’t sleeping because I had acid reflux all of the time. Which made me prop myself up at night instead of laying down.

I started to realize that everyone was on my list BUT me. I was miserable.

I knew I had to snap out of it.

Exercise and healthy living isn’t new to me. I’ve seriously been doing it for over 20 years. 🫨

I fell off after having my son, COVID, WFH, and ordering food out for convenience. We will have to peel back ALOT of layers to discuss everything I was going through. But as far as movements go. My only daily movements was moving the fork to and from my mouth.

I had to remind myself how exercise used to make me feel. I started back small. One mile every day, walked until I could jog and jogged until I could run. I haven’t looked back.

If this sounds like you. Tired of pouring from an empty cup, not feeling good about how you feel or look, or just tired of being tired then you are in the right place.

What you might not know is that exercise out does waaaaay more than help with weight loss.

The mental and physical benefits alone will make you addicted.

I hope my journey inspires you to put yourself back on the list…permanently.

Most of my workouts are at home. My son is always with me. So, there is cardio and chaos. Weights and whining but I push through.

One thing I’ve learned. Them kids and that spouse will wait. They will be there when you’re done. Hard to believe. I know. But it’s true.

I hope you can join me on this journey and feel inspired to start your own.

  • Drove From San Antonio To Austin To Run On Ladybird Trail

Drove From San Antonio To Austin To Run On Ladybird Trail

Austin is one of our favorite day trips to take. It’s a short drive from San Antonio. So it’s very easy to go for the day and come back home. Staying in one of their posh hotels is always an option. But for me, I love sleeping in my own bed. I don’t have to worry about when the sheets were washed, who laid in the bed before me, bed bugs, dirty sinks or anything else that makes me anxious about a hotel. So, if going home to sleep in my bed is an option, that’s what I’m doing.

With that being said, we went to Austin for the weekend. Lets say the weekend days because we went home each night to sleep.

Ladybird Trail isn’t new to us. Although, it’s been a while since we ran on the trails there. It’s always nice but since Summer is gone and Fall has arrived. It’s even better! The weather was perfect. The fall colors made it even more beautiful and the peaceful lake made it feel like we were in an entirely new place.

  • My 2 Faves For Energy Right Now

My 2 Faves For Energy Right Now

Caffeine…I have a love/hate relationship with it. Well, maybe I should say I had a love/hate relationship because we’ve worked through some things and now we are full blown in love again.

My love for caffeine started in 2000 when I started working for a bank. Everyone in the office was lining up in the break room to make themselves a cup of brown joy. So, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and that’s when the love affair began.

Me and coffee went to together real bad. Over the years I’ve had every Keurig and espresso machine you could imagine. Once I decided they weren’t making it strong enough. I started going to a local coffee shop. I was paying almost $8 per day for a coffee that was gone before I even made it back to the house. Everyone was supporting this affair…my mom would drop a cup off to me here and there, my husband would leave for work extra early in the morning to get it for me and drop it off before he had to work. Until the day he came home and said,

“This is the last time I’m buying you coffee. I’ve spent close to $200 on coffee this month!”

Yes it was ridiculous and i immediately quit going to the coffee shop. But I was back to making it at home. Drinking 3 or 4 cups per day added up to the caffeine I needed, right?

This went on forever until this last January. I started having heartburn and indigestion to a whole new level. After days on Google, I found that some were saying that coffee may be contributing to the problem. I worried about how difficult it would be to quit. But I will always put my health before anything else. So I quit cold turkey. Surprisingly it was very easy.

I was doing good until a Dutch Bros. opened across the street from me and I was back it. For a short time though. Spending $7 everyday is just ridiculous.

Now, I only consuming energy things when it’s time to exercise. I’ve discovered energy chews and let me tell you. They work. I don’t know if they work while you’re just sitting around the house. But taking 2 before going out to exercise really gives me the boost I’ve been looking for.

Without further ado, here are the two things that have really been getting me through a good workout.

They are organic, taste great and they work! Maybe it not exactly the caffeine jolt I’ve been chasing since my first cup. (Wow, that sounds very much like an addiction.)

Eating two gummies right before leaving out the door. Or even just half of the waffle somehow gives me an increased amount of energy when I’m working out. I can’t explain it. And I won’t complain. They don’t break the bank.

Have you tried these? What do you use for energy? Let me know in the comments.

  • 4 Mile Family Park Run + Flea Market Shopping

4 Mile Family Park Run + Flea Market Shopping

This past Saturday was extra special because my husband didn’t have to work. On days like this, we always try to make the most of our day.

We started off with a good breakfast. My son and I have been ADDICTED to protein waffles for the last month. So we’ve been eating them every, single morning. He’s upgraded to eating two each morning. Which really surprises me cause he’s so small. But I’m often reminded that he’s growing. So I guess it’s fine.

After letting our food settle, our first stop was was the park. We’ve extended our runs to 4 miles a few times a week. So, that’s what we did on Saturday. Although, we ended up walking most of the last mile. We did much better than I expected.

After the park, we changed out of our sweaty shirts and headed to the flea market. It is one of our favorite places to go on the weekend. Because you never know what you’re gonna find. It’s the ultimate treasure hunt!

I’ve also been looking for some flower pots for a DIY project I’m working on. And the flea market is a great place to find some unique ones. Plus, my son gets a chance to ride a carousel or get a toy so he always enjoys it too. Luckily, I found one pot that was small enough for what I was looking for. (More on my DIY project later.)

Check out the prices of the small pots. You can’t beat that!

  • Come With My Family On A 3 Mile Run

Come With My Family On A 3 Mile Run

When I first found my love of exercise it was over 20 years ago. I was single with no children and lived a carefree life. I would hike at 5am or go to the gym at 9pm. Time wasn’t a factor. Honestly, nothing was a factor. I didn’t care about the overpriced gym fees, expensive workout clothes or anything else. But now. Well, let’s just say it’s a whole ‘nother story.

Having a family takes just a bit more planning. Mainly just setting a time with my husband and making sure my has son a toy to keep him occupied. Other than that, we are ready to go!

We have always worked out together before our son came along. But I think we appreciate it more now on a different level. It is not only a way to be healthy but it’s brought so many other things to our relationship.

    – We challenge and push eachother

    – We get uninterrupted time to talk on our warm ups and cooldowns. No phones, no tv…just us.

    – It relieves stress and helps us to unwind.

Want to see what our runs are like?

The first mile is always the hardest for some reason?? Any ideas on why? Please let me know in the comments….

  • The Celebrity Skincare That I Swear By

The Celebrity Skincare That I Swear By

It wasn’t until recently that I started to notice how much time and money I spend on skincare.

It occurred to me last week when the skincare that I use had a sale. I put my items in the cart and logged on. For some reason, I decided to look at my order history. Let’s just say…your girl has spent some bread on skincare. But I will admit that I don’t feel bad about it at all. There are things that I regret spending my money on but this certainly isn’t one of them!

Taking care of my health, skin, and mental well-being has always been a important to me.

I’ve tried so many different routines. But my skincare obsession really began when I was about 25 years old. I had blackheads on my cheeks. Not just a few. A lot of them. I tried all of the regular drugstore stuff but they didn’t work. That is when I decided to book an appointment with a dermatologist. They prescribed Differin Gel and it worked like magic. Back then it was expensive. Now I see that it’s available over the counter.

Once it cleared up, I was looking for something to maintain my new, fresh face.

I tried other skincare products like Clarins, Proactive and the list goes on and on. But I ended up using Origins for several years. They have good products that are clean but they come with a nice size price tag too. Although, not as expensive as some of the other stuff I’ve seen on the market. I had no intention on switching but then I met Fenty.

I initially wanted to try it because it was also clean like Origins and the prices were slightly lower. I was going to say that it had nothing to do with the fact that it is owned by Rhianna. But I guess it does because being that it is black owned was another reason that I wanted to try it. I haven’t gone back since day one.

    Here’s why I like it:

    – Clean ingredients

    – Pretty packaging

    – Decent pricing. They always have sales (sign up for a free membership)

    – Quick & easy

    – A little goes a long way

    – It works!

Check out how I use it daily.

(not sponsored. just sharing my thoughts.)

Let me know if you’ve tried Fenty in the comments. If so, what are your thoughts?

  • How I Keep My Toddler Entertained While Out On A Run

How I Keep My Toddler Entertained While Out On A Run

    Amazing weather ✅

    Top rated running shoes ✅

Fueled up and ready to go ✅

This all sounds like the perfect conditions for taking an outdoor run with your family. But if you don’t have a plan for your toddler, you plan to fail.

I cannot tell you how many times my husband and I have put our son in the stroller. Just to turn back after less than a quarter of a mile in because my son wasn’t having it.

He’s done it all from screaming to the top of his lungs the entire run to throwing things like his hat at cars in traffic!

Let’s be honest…we are the adults but the kids run everything because if they aren’t content and happy; mama and daddy certainly won’t be.

Thankfully, we’ve done really well at figuring out how to keep him entertained. Here are some that have helped us…

    1. Bring snacks! This seems like a no brainer but it is important to consider the type of snacks. It should be something portable and not messy.

    2. Let them participate. No matter how small of a task it is. We let our son hit the “run” button when it’s time to start tracking our time.

    3. Let them explore with their eyes. Explain things you see that they don’t get to see everyday like a buzzard eating roadkill, a giant grasshopper, or even a flower they have never seen. We once saw a buzzard getting a dead bird from middle of the street. My son asked what it was and I explained he was getting food to take back to his family. Since then, he asks me almost everyday if the buzzard took food to his family today.

    4. Let them grab. Tall grass, weeds or whatever they can get their hands on. It’s like their trophy for the day.

    5. Bring a portable outdoor toy. Something entertaining like a bubble machine has been a lifesaver! The best $5 I’ve ever spent.

    6. Bring the tablet. This one isn’t my favorite but sometimes necessary. I have found that the tablet has only had to be used in extreme circumstances. It sits in his lap, turned off, 95% of the time. He’s usually too busy looking around to see what’s around him. If it’s a must to use, try suggesting that they record stuff they see or maybe listen to songs.

    7. Give them a chance to run too. After we finish, we get him out of the stroller to let him run up and down the sidewalk a few times. He even asks about his running time when he’s done!

Running as a family has been something that we look forward to each day. We struggle together, sweat together, bond and it’s a great way to get yourself and the kids out of the house without spending a dime. Our son asks every, single day…”Mama, are we going to go for a run today?” Making memories like this is worth the soreness that we go through.

Hope these tips help you as much as they help us. If you have a tip, drop it in the comments.

  • Here Are 3 Things I Learned About Overdoing It With Exercise

Here Are 3 Things I Learned About Overdoing It With Exercise

Hey fearless readers! Hope you’re have a wonderful Friday.

On Wednesday, I posted about the trials and tribulations that I’ve been going through in training for a marathon that is supposed to happen in December. Working out everyday for 6 months straight. On five days of the week, I was doing two-a-days….weights in the morning and running in the evening.

I’d recently started experiencing pain in damn near every part of my body. From my shoulders to my butt and even my big toe. I’m not exaggerating!

Since I was hurting everywhere; I decided to take it easy by doing weights every other morning and taking a brisk walk in the evenings instead of running. But that didn’t help at all. I was still hurting!

Here’s a look at Nike reminding me how terrible my numbers were:

As you can see, I hit the trails for 3 miles. My average time per mile was 18 minutes and 45 seconds. Which is absolutely horrible when I compared it to my previous numbers when I was running a 10 minute mile. Seeing that it took me basically double the amount of time than before all of the body pain was a hard pill to swallow. But I had no choice but to accept it.

After this run, I got on the floor to do pushups before bed and it felt like my arm was going to fall off. It was suddenly extremely sore and hurt if I tried to raise my hand.

I woke up the next day (still hurting) and said,

    Bitch, you need a break!

and that’s what I did. I set rules for myself that day: No weights, no cardio, no pushups…nothing. I just felt tired and beat up.

After a full day of rest, I took the next morning off and did no weights too. When our usual run time came, my husband asked if I felt like going out. I’ll go but I’ll take it easy. I thought.

I got out there and don’t know what happened. I ran faster, longer, and felt overall amazing! Check out my numbers after the break time…

When I checked out my stats, I was really impressed! It was not my personal best but it was a drastic improvement from just having one and a half days rest.

On the cool down, I started to think about what changed and why. Here are some things that I learned.

    1. Give yourself grace. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Like I previously mentioned, I’d been working out for 6 months straight. I haven’t met my goals so far so I thought ramping up my exercises would get me there faster. It doesn’t work that way. Just keep showing up. The results will come.
    2. Listen to your body. If you’re tired. Go sit down somewhere! You’re human. You need rest. Working with injuries will only make it worse not better.
    3. Learn to laugh at yourself. Stressing and exercising don’t go together. Exercising actually helps to alleviate stress. Laughing at the fact that your 40 year body needs rest, when you’re 20 year old body different is pretty funny if you think about it.

I’m excited to be feeling more like myself again and hope to see my running times greatly improve. Either way I’ll just keep showing up (except when my body tells me not to) and enjoying the journey! After all, the marathon awaits.

Whats something you’ve learned about yourself during a fitness journey? Let’s talk in the comments.

  • Over 45 And Training For A Marathon (with injuries)

Over 45 And Training For A Marathon (with injuries)

I am no stranger to exercise or running. I’ve done it for at least the past 20 years of my life and love it!

I took a break while pregnant. Then after having my son, I found it hard to find the time. But now that he’s a toddler, it’s much easier to get it done. Or so I thought. Let’s be clear, he’s not the problem…it’s me. It’s my body to be honest. I feel great emotionally and I have energy to get it done BUT now I have heel pain, leg pain, side pain, shoulder pain…even pain in my butt. Pain I’ve never experienced before. As a matter of fact, my heel is throbbing right now!

When I complain to my husband, his answer is always, “You’re no spring chicken anymore, baby”. Initially, I thought he was tripping. But I’m starting to realize that he just might be right.

I’ve been back to exercising full time for the last 6 months. And to challenge myself even more, my husband and I decided to sign up for our first half marathon. Everything was going great!! It wasn’t until a couple of weeks ago that I started breaking down. I went from running 9 minutes per mile to about 13 or 14. Simply because everything hurts!

We walked for two weeks to rest and now are back to jogging again. In hopes to start back to full fledged running soon. Nevertheless, pain isn’t going to stop me. But it has slowed me down quite a bit. The marathon isn’t until December but I admit that I’m nervous already because of all of the issues.

Here’s a video of my family and I getting back to it. After all, the marathon awaits…

If you have any training tips, I’d love to hear them!

  • Back Like I Never Left

    Back Like I Never Left

Hey readers! It’s been a while; hasn’t it?

If you are a long time follower and reader, thanks for waiting. If you are a newbie here, thanks for giving me a few minutes of your time.

Life has been life-ing. Between working, mother-ing, wife-ing, daughter-ing and everything else; your girl has had her hands full. But I knew that it was time to get back to myself and do other things I love like this blog!

Not only have a just been dealing with a full plate but I have also been feeling stuck on how to move my business forward. During my hiatus, I was teetering back and forth on how to make changes.

Should I continue selling handmade pieces? Should I keep the boutique open? Should I completely stop blogging and pursue other passions? Change the name? Change the content?

I have been thinking a lot about what’s next. And although I don’t have it all figured out, some changes have been made. But change is good, right?

One big change is that you will no longer see links or products to the boutique. I know that you loved to shop from it but I decided to close it. I enjoyed it too but I just wasn’t seeing the revenue that I expected. When I compared it to all of the work I was doing to keep it going it just didn’t add up. It pained me to close it. But it had to be done. I thought about it long and hard but decided it was time for a serious pivot. On to bigger and better things. More about that when the time is right.

Another decision I made is to stop offering custom dresses. I’ve had some of the worst experiences in life making custom dresses. I shared one of the experiences on the blog before. Now that I think about it. The last custom customer from hell is what made me go on a hiatus. It wasn’t worth the stress. People wanted everything, made by hand for pennies and thought the dress would somehow magically make them look like Beyonce. I just couldn’t put myself through that hell anymore. My peace is everything to me. No amount of money will allow me to disrupt it again.

There are still other things I’m figuring out but I’ll be sharing the journey along the way. I don’t feel the need to hide until I come up with my next “thing”. I missed y’all too much for that!

It feels so good to be back! Don’t worry…you can still expect great content about fashion, style, fitness, life, and all things fearless. But better.

I just wanted to pop in with a quick update to let you know that I’m still here and now better than ever. You can expect continuous content just like the old days.

If you missed me too, let me know in the comment!
