  • 39 Days Of Exercise, No Breaks

39 Days Of Exercise, No Breaks

Last week, I shared with you that I went to Denver for a birthday trip which turned into a fashion inspiration trip.  I like to make a big deal of my born day and this year was no exception.  So, in addition to taking a roadtrip to Denver, I wanted to kick it up a notch.

As another way to celebrate,  I created a fitness challenge to workout every single day for the 39 days leading up to my birthday.  Exercise has been apart of my life for almost two decades.  No really, my routine for almost two decades is to hit the gym and exercise for 4 to 5 days a week.  I’m so used to it that 39 straight days sounded like nothing.  Additionally, my fiancé (who was only a few months into beginning his own exercise journey) was along for the ride.    The final day was to be a hike up a huge mountain in Denver.  Here is how it went.

    Day 1:

    bluelabelsboutiquewoner39daysfitnesschallenge.JPG

Week 1 & Week 2 was a breeze.  We hit the gym around 6pm Monday through Friday like clockwork.  The first week, we did our usual routine.  (45 minutes of cardio on the treadmill 2 days/week, 30 minutes of cardio with 20 minutes of strength training 2 days/week, weights only on 1 day/week, 4-5 mile park run on one day of the weekend, &,  HIIT on the other weekend day.

    E4F4523C-781A-4FE5-8224-7DFF51DE7EE5

Week 3 we changed it up and added hiking in on one of the days.  By the end of week 3, the conversations on our 5 minute to the gym changed.  It used to be about what we were going to do after the gym or what happened at work earlier in the day. The convo changed to, “My hip hurts, I can run on an incline today” or “Did you put the menthol cream on your leg so it will stop hurting?” and even, “Let’s get this shit over with”.  One break day was all we needed, but we had to push through.

Week 4 had it’s highs and lows.  Although, we were dying to take a day off, we also found so much pride in knowing that we’d come to far to turn around.  One of the days during this week 4, I had menstrual cramps so bad that Midol wouldn’t take them away.  This was on the same date that my fiancé had shin splints so bad that he spent the night before staying up late looking for ways to make the pain go away.  We both wanted to lay on the couch and lay around so bad.  But instead of doing that, we waited until around 8pm when it finally started to cool off a bit.  And we took a slow and steady 3 miles walk around our neighborhood.

The last 3 days was a challenge.  Not because we were sore on every part of our body (because we were ).   But planning for a road trip from Texas to Colorado meant we had to make sure the car was road trip approved by getting tires, oil change, etc.  Planning, packing, and figuring out how to exercise while on the road.

Day 36 we left Texas at 8am and finally arrived in Denver around 9:30pm.  Traveling in my workout gear was a good idea.  Because after checking into a hotel, we dropped our bags in the room and knew what we had to do.  So, we found ourselves running 3 miles around downtown Denver at 10pm.  It was exhilarating!

Day 37, we woke up in Denver and I was ready to hit the hills.  Look, I enjoy day drinking while on vacation.  The only way I could start early was to work out even earlier.  Which is why, we were at the center of downtown Denver running like a maniac with the rest of the early morning runners and cyclists.  I have to admit the elevation did affect our breathing on the run.  At some points the tightness was real but we continued to push through.

Day 38,  was even better than I expected.  I woke up super early to find out the hiking hot spots so we can be at the top of someones mountain before noon.  After much scrolling, we decided on Red Rock Canyon.  After a winding drive to Red Rock, we hiked up a bit to find a mecca for fitness people.  The Red Rocks were amazing and the views breathtaking.  Lucky for us, there was no event going on at the auditorium portion.  We walked around the corner into the auditorium to find people of all shapes, colors, and athletic levels exercising their hearts out.  Running up the stairs, tricep dips off the seats, even burpees up and down the auditorium.  I got dizzy just looking at it!  But we were no exception.  Push-ups, jump-ups, sit-ups, leg presses…we did a complete burn under the Colorado sun, right in the middle of the mountains.  It was absolutely amazing!!!

I wish I could give you detail on our exact pound and inches lost.  But I’ve had a habit from a long time ago of staying away from the scale.  I exercise and eat pretty healthy.  Stepping on a scale each week isn’t going to do anything but make me neurotic about a number.  And since I don’t know what that number is…I decide to not bother with it.  I go based on how I feel, how my clothes feel, and how I feel about what I see in the mirror…period.  But I can say for sure that we both dropped pounds, inches, and became much stronger.  My #39daysweatchallenge helped to support my idea even more that I can do anything I put my mind to.  Just take it one day at a time…fearlessy.

The next challenge has already started and it involves pull ups.  I will let you know how it goes.  Have you put yourself through a challenge and what was the outcome?  Let me know in the comments…

Freaking Out Over These Fringe Earrings

Fringe can take a look from blah to blam…real quick!  The devil truly is in the details when it comes to styling and profiling.  Fringe is the perfect example of this.   It’s a stylish detail to stand out from the crowd.   Isn’t that the point?!

If you’ve read my previous posts, you will know that this girl has a thing for fringe. Feeling the fringe doesn’t mean you have to wear a fully fringed dress or fringed back moto jacket.  A pair of earrings will do the trick.  That’s why I’m freaking out over the Fringe Gem Earrings just added to the BLB!  Take a look…

Denver, Co Had My Creative Juices Going…

Since I was a little girl, I’ve always taken some type of trip for my birthday.  I think the obsession started because of my mom.  The first birthday trip I can remember I was super young but I remember that she took me and the family to a different city.  We spent the weekend shopping, going to a theme park, and chilling in a nice hotel.  This planted the seed.  At that moment I knew I had to do this every year.

I began working at a young age, so it was nothing for me to continue the tradition as a teenager and through my 20s.  Lucky for me, my fiancé loves to travel and the tradition of it all, so it’s been super easy to keep this going!

Once I started BLB, somehow things changed.  These trips became less about celebrating my born day and more about BLB.  It’s more of a fashion roadtrip than birthday celebration.  Instead of shopping for me, I find myself looking for something to offer at BLB or for a great pop up location.  Rather than enjoying the night life, I explore the city for inspiration.  “What’s the fashion vibe like here?”  “Would this be a good city to do a pop up?”  Its a whole thing!

This past weekend I visited Denver, Colorado for my B-day celebration.  And I was up to my usual antics.  This city has always been on my bucket list for various reasons from the healthy lifestyle culture, mountains views and laws. ☺️  Besides, this girl loves a good road trip!  Here are some things I saw in Denver that fueled some fashion inspiration.

I am happy to say that Denver went beyond my expectations.  Bold colors shined at every turn.  Not just from the art but it was found in the bright green grass,  rich red rocks, and shades of the mountains that ranged from blues, greens, purples and more.  This vibrant, modern city definitely ignited my creative energy.  Stay tuned to see what styles develop  from this awesome trip!

This Stylish Beauty Pageant Queen Is Creating Change; Here’s How…

Sofia Griffith reached out seeking a sponsor to assist her with a great opportunity.  She was given the honor of representing the state of Washington at the 2017 Miss Black Teen U.S. Ambassador Pageant.  The pageant gives young African American women a chance to create change within their community through service and empowerment.  The competition also offers a scholarship that helps the competitors to prepare for their future career while highlighting community service.
Sofias’ platform focuses on adults and children who struggle with mental health, anxiety and depression.  She is active in her community through church, school and various organizations.  Wow, sounds like a young woman that  we need to get to know, right?!  Find out more about Sofias’ movement.  Plus, how she styled our Too Tied Dress.
     sofiagriffithinbluelabelsboutiquedress
What is the Miss Black Teen U.S. Ambassador program?
The MBUSAM pageant is a great way for young African american girls and women to be come comfort in their own skin and get a chance to know girls with the same goals as them selves.
Why do you want to be a part of it?
I was adopted by a Caucasian family and was raised in a primarily white area and so I never fully was connected with my culture. And so this pageant has given the opportunity to do that.
How did the opportunity to represent the state of Washington come along?
I was actually contacted by the owner of the pageant Patrice Harrison and I am so blessed that she did it has opened quite a few doors for me in to the professional world.
What’s your most important initiative that you would like to focus on?
Adoption. My platform is The Adoption Option: Empowering Families to Foster the Gift of Life.
What’s your family and school life like?
My family is super cool and relaxed. Living in Washington I attend a very inclusive and liberal school.
What would you tell young women who struggle with their confidence?
I would say to either join a pageant similar to MBUSAM, not only to build confidence but also to make amazing life long friends; or to take part in service activies to help give yourself a sturdy foundation that you can then build confidence upon, ‘all houses are built from the foundation up’
What’s your first move after you win?
Every girl in this pageant deserves to win. However if I we to I would go and eat a whole load of pumpkin pie, and spend time with my family since I can’t see them a week before the pageant.
What’s the hardest part about being in this sort of competition?
Interview. Only because it requires and presentation and my public speaking is not the best, but I’m making progress and hopefully it’s gotten better.
How would you describe your personal style?
Most of the time I’m very fashionable Seattle grunge(weird combo. I know) but when it comes to pageant week in very Blair Waldorf.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I seen myself being an advocate. I plan on still making great strides and change to improve our community in the future.

  • Pop Up Announcement

    Pop Up Announcement

Hope you all are having a great humpday.  Only two days ’til the weekend.  Thank goodness!  Guess I’m also excited about an upcoming pop up.

One of the things I love about BLB is doing pop up shops.  But it didn’t start out that way.  When I first began BLB, I thought my days would be spent behind a computer purchasing, processing orders, maintaining a website, writing a blog every once in a while.  About 1 1/2 year into it, I realized it was necessary to go offline and connect with people.  This was horrifying to me!  I didn’t want to interact face- to- face with others.  Not because I didn’t want to but because I was afraid! This whole fashion business was new to me (and still is).  Will people like my selection?  What type of questions are they going to ask me?  What if I don’t know how to swipe their credit card?  I feared it all!  But after pushing the fear aside, BLB participated in our first pop up event in 2015 at an outdoor market in San Antonio.

I’ve been addicted ever since.  You can now catch BLB popping up in various cities on a monthly basis!  Its funny how the same things that scared the shit out of me, now excite me?!   I welcome the questions.  Enjoy helping fashionistas shop for something they love!  Plus, I am well equipped for any card mishaps.  ☺️

On this Saturday, 8/5, BLB will be at an event benefiting the San Antonio Food Bank.  The details are below.  Hope to see you there.

  • The 5 Worst Pieces Of Advice I’ve Heard About Being Sexy

The 5 Worst Pieces Of Advice I’ve Heard About Being Sexy

Adjectives are used to describe a person, place or thing. Now that I’ve given you your English lesson for the day, let me further explain. ☺️
At some point in our lives, someone has used an adjective to describe you. And it isn’t always favorable. For instance, stupid, was the adjective I heard most to describe me after leaving my job to pursue becoming a fashion entrepreneur. I’m still laughing at that one. But it’s not all bad. There are some adjectives that I would gladly accept. Sexy is definitely in my Top 5. And I’m not ashamed to say it but being sexy seems to have taken flight in a whole different way these days. I mean, have you seen some of the stuff on social media post?! Posting a picture of something that only your GYNO should see is not sexy…period. It’s like somewhere along the lines, the essence of truly being sexiness got mixed up. Or I missing something?

Here are 5 of the worst pieces advice about being sexy that I’ve ever heard.

you have to dress sexy, to be sexy

Dressing sexy doesn’t mean that you’re sexy. It also doesn’t mean that you’re not sexy. Being sexy is not at all about what you wear. You have to feel good in it. A turtleneck maxi dress with leather gloves can be much sexier than wearing a minidress and 6” heels. It’s about how you wear it. You gotta believe it to achieve it.

you have to show off everything on social media to be sexy

Posting a picture spread eagle with no bottoms on to increase likes and DMs is alot of things. But sexy isn’t the adjective that comes to mind. Sexy is leaving a lil’ something to the imagination.

    being sexy is about sex

This might sound ironic but being sexy isn’t about sex at all. It’s about confidence. When you have confidence in who you are and the wonderfulness you have to offer others…that defines sexiness. This type of confidence is what makes you walk into a room with your head high and shoulders back, no matter what. Confidence allows you to know your self-worth and not accepting anything less than that from others. Now…that’s sexy. And it will be written all over face and body language. You won’t have to say a word!

you have to look like a celebrity in order to be sexy

Everyone is born to be there own unique self. And that same thing applies to celebrities. They are them and you are you. Embrace that! If you compare yourself to others, you will never think you’re sexy.  Let them do them and you do you!

you have to choose smart or sexy

You have to choose: Smart or sexy – You can be both sexy and smart. Don’t dumb yourself down. If those you hang with think you are too smart, then maybe its time to find different hanging buddies?

Thoughts on sexy?  Leave it in the comments…
